Pelosi: Bush Lacks
Authority to Invade
By DAVID ESPO
AP Special Correspondent Feb 15, 4:13 PM EST
WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
said Thursday that President Bush lacks the authority to invade Iran without
specific approval from Congress, a fresh challenge to the commander in chief on
the eve of a symbolic vote critical of his troop buildup in Iraq.
(ap) - Memo to Cruella Pelosi (D-Marxist): The
President was given that Authority by you and your Colleagues: Authorization for
Use of Military Force (2001) http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c107:S.J.RES.23.ENR:
From the Authorization:
"Whereas, the President has authority under the
Constitution to take action to deter and prevent acts of international terrorism
against the United States: Now, therefore, be it... (a) IN GENERAL- That the
President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those
nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed,
or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored
such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of
international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations
or persons."
Now please, save the theatrics, it's damaging to the morale of OUR Troops and it
emboldens our Enemies, not to mention you aren't going to do anything more than try
to pass meaningless "Non-Binding Resolutions", so why don't you sit down, and
shut up. - tha malcontent)
Pelosi, D-Calif., noted that Bush consistently said he supports a diplomatic
resolution to differences with Iran "and I take him at his word."
(You condescending, dishonest, over-plastic-surgeried,
dried up witch of an excuse for a human... Sit down, and shut up. - tha
malcontent)
At the same time, she said, "I do believe that Congress should assert itself,
though, and make it very clear that there is no previous authority for the
president, any president, to go into Iran."
(Again: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c107:3:./temp/~c107c07ovS::
Please DemocRATS, stop lying. - tha malcontent)
Pelosi spoke in an interview in the Capitol as the House moved through a third
marathon day of debate on a nonbinding measure that disapproves of the military
buildup in Iraq while expressing support for the troops.
(One of the most offensive things this Congress
could possibly do... And they claim to support the troops. Where's that
Resolution, Cruella?... No Resolutions to support victory out of you DemocRATS?...
I am shocked... SHOCKED! - tha malcontent)
Passage of the measure was expected Friday. Pelosi and other Democrats have said
approval would mark the first step in an effort by the new Democratic-controlled
Congress to force Bush to change course in a war that has killed more than 3,100
U.S. troops.
(Actually, Islamists, for the most part, have killed
our Troops... Back in the day, the "Free Press" said that "Nazis" or the
"Japanese" killed our Soldiers, not "the War". Apparently they don't
want to upset their ally in this War. And that ally of the Left will be back to the business of killing us on our soil if
we retreat from the battlefield now... I hope the Left ultimately understands
that fact. - tha malcontent)
Bush administration officials and their allies are resigned to House passage of
the resolution and have worked in recent days to hold down defections by GOP
lawmakers.
("...and their allies"... Am I to read that as our
President has different "allies" in this War than the DemocRATS?... - tha
malcontent)
But Bush took a swipe at his critics during the day.
"This may become the first time in the history of the United States Congress
that it has voted to send a new commander into battle and then voted to oppose
his plan that is necessary to succeed in that battle," the president said.
(That's not a "swipe", it's a Fact, AP. They knew
that General Petraeus supported "the Surge" and yet they unanimously Approved
him. This is the WORST kind of politics, and if the AP wasn't batting for the
DemocRATS, they would have illustrated it as such. - tha malcontent)
The Senate unanimously confirmed Lt. Gen David Petraeus last week to take over
as the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
(Again, knowing that he supported "the Surge"... The
DemocRATS have no Shame, and neither does their mouthpiece, the Associated
Press. - tha malcontent)
